Toronto man charged with forcing 16-year-old into sex trade

A 26-year-old Toronto man is facing 12 charges in connection with a human trafficking investigation.
Police say a 16-year-old girl was allegedly recruited into the sex trade by the man last October. She was taken to various hotels in Toronto where she was photographed in various stages of undress. Those photos were then posted on backpages.com, advertising her sexual services.
In November, the girl attempted to flee from the man. She was found and assaulted.
She attempted another escape and this time managed to contact police.
Michael “Champagne” Okoaki faces charges including trafficking in persons under 18, exercising control, advertise another person’s sexual services, sexual assault, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
