Oakville man charged in connection with 2016 Chinatown double homicide

By News Staff

Toronto police have arrested and charged a 33-year-old man in connection with a double murder in Chinatown last year.

In the early hours of Jan. 31, 2016, five men were shot near Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street following an altercation outside the New Ho King restaurant.

Quinn Taylor, 29, and David Michael Eminess, 26, described by police as two young fathers, were killed. Three other people were injured in the shooting.

Police previously said the two men may have been targeted, but did not suspect the shooting was gang-related.

In the weeks following the shooting, Kyle Sparks-MacKinnon, 25, of Toronto was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

On Thursday, the Toronto police homicide unit arrested Jahmal Richardson, 33, of Oakville. Richardson has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Richardson is the alleged leader of a gang called the Heart of a King (HOK). The gang is believed to be responsible for three previous Toronto homicides and was the target of a Toronto police raid called Project Sizzle in June of last year.

Police would still like to speak with anyone who has information on the shooting.
