A 51-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was killed in the city’s east end on Thursday morning.
Emergency crews were called to an apartment building on Dawes Road, near Victoria Park Avenue, around 8:30 a.m.
The 36-year-old woman was in medical distress and died at the scene. Police have identified her as Michelle Riley.
“I used to hang out with her all the time, say hi to her when I seen her,” said resident Linda Hemwood.
“She’s a good person.”
Sarah Childs, who lives on the 10th floor, said she wasn’t surprised by the murder.
“It’s 500 Dawes,” she said. “There’s always something going on here. If it’s not a murder, it’s an arrest, a domestic. It’s always something around here.
“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t come home where there’s not a cop car sitting out here.”
Brian Williams, who is believed to be Riley’s roommmate, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
He is due in a College Park courtroom on Friday morning.
