The first subway closure of the year takes place this weekend.
There is no service on Line 1 between Downsview and St. George stations due to signal upgrades. It is one of the 11 full closures of this section of the Yonge-University line this year.
Unlike past closures, shuttle buses will not operate along the full route of the closure. They will only run between Downsview and Lawrence West stations. The TTC suggests customers use existing east-west bus and streetcar routes along the closed portion of the route, where it has added extra vehicles.
If you’re travelling on Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) and want to head north, the TTC says customers should transfer at Yonge-Bloor as there is no shuttle service from St. George station.
The closure is to implement ATC — automatic train control — which the TTC says will allow more trains to run simultaneously at higher speeds, thus providing more reliable travel times.
Regular service is set to resume at 6 a.m. on Monday.
