Kingston allowing residents to pay off parking tickets with toys

By The Canadian Press and News Staff

Kingston residents can pay their parking ticket with a toy.

Parking tickets received between Nov. 1 and Dec. 9 are eligible for the Toys for Tickets campaign.

The program, which ends Friday, excludes tickets for unauthorized parking in an accessible parking space.

Recommended gifts include games, cars, trucks, dolls and stuffed toys. The toy must be of equal or greater value than the amount of the ticket (include a receipt with the toy).

Participation is optional and drivers can of course pay their fines. Click here for options.

The idea isn’t a new one: Oshawa and Whitchurch-Stouffville have similar programs, and Toys for Tickets has operated in Kingston since 2005.
