Woman using walker struck and killed on Bathurst near Sheppard

By News staff

Toronto police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed in the city’s northwest end.

Emergency crews were called to Bathurst Street near Sheppard Avenue West around 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

She had just left a seniors’ residence in the area and was crossing the street with her walker. There is no crosswalk in front of the building, and residents say it is very dangerous and difficult to the bus stop.

Paramedics say the 87-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver remained at the scene.

The driver, a 54-year-old woman, was driving north on Bathurst at the time of the crash.

This is the city’s 76th traffic fatality of the year, and 42 of those have been pedestrians.

Bathurst was closed in both directions from Sheppard to York Downs Drive, but reopened around 10:30 a.m.
