James Hinchcliff helps Halton police promote road safety

By News Staff

Halton police have enlisted some high-octane celebrity help to get the message out about road safety.

IndyCar driver and Oakville native James Hinchcliff has signed on to help raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving as part of Halton’s ‘Stay on Track’ campaign.

“As a professional race car driver, safety comes first when I am on the track and on the roads,” Hinchcliffe said in a release. “The Halton Regional Police Service also recognizes this concern and is committed to promoting traffic safety through various campaigns and programs during the year.”

The campaign is part of Ontario’s Crime Prevention Week.

“This year it has resulted in a number of tragic outcomes, which cause a rippling impact in the wellness of our communities,” Deputy chief Nishan Duraiappah explained. “The preventative PSA represents a scenario, which occurs far too often on our roads.”

Crime Prevention Week runs from Nov. 6 to 12.
