GTA karate instructor charged with sex assault

A 57-year-old Toronto-area karate instructor has been charged in the alleged sexual assault of one of his students.

Peel police say a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her instructor, Satnam Rayat, on numerous occasions when the two were alone.

Rayat, a martial arts and dance instructor, owns Rayat Karate near Bovaird Drive and Williams Parkway and also teaches classes in Mississauga, Burlington and Toronto.

The Toronto man was arrested on Saturday and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared in a Brampton court on Sunday.
