1 dead, 1 injured in Hwy. 401 rollover

By News Staff

A 62-year-old woman was killed and a 66-year-old man was injured in a rollover on Highway 401 in Mississauga on Saturday morning.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a black GMC SUV went into the ditch on the median between the express and collector lanes near Highway 403.

Witnesses said an eastbound vehicle lost control, and OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the GMC driver may have had to swerve to avoid it.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was airlifted to St. Michael’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Police believe a second vehicle had some sort of involvement or interaction with the GMC, prior to it losing control and rolling over. They are looking to speak with the driver of a silver, four door sedan with a sunroof, who was travelling in the area around 8:40 a.m.

“We have a few witnesses now, but I know there should be many more that would have seen this collision,” Schmidt said. “There was a lot of traffic here at the time.”

Two right express lanes of Highway 401 and the ramp from Highway 403 were closed for the collision reconstruction and have since reopened.
