Toronto FC issues apology after lewd banner appears during game

By News Staff

The Toronto FC has publicly apologized to the City of Montreal and Montreal Impact soccer fans after a lewd banner was displayed at Saturday night’s game at BMO Field.

The team called the banner a disgraceful act and an embarrassment to the club and its supporters.

“A sign was displayed in the stands that was insulting to many including our opponents,” said the Toronto FC on Twitter.

During the game between the two rival clubs, a man unfurled a white banner that showed a woman in front of a man, performing a sexual act.

Toronto FC said the action will not be tolerated and that it will be going through all the available security and social media footage, along with asking fans to help identify the people involved, so they can be held responsible.

Fans of both teams expressed their disgust on social media during and after the game.

The original tweet can be found here. Be warned: it is graphic.
