A woman and a four-year-old girl have died following a two-vehicle crash in Markham.

An air ambulance was called to 16th Avenue and Bur Oak Avenue in the city’s east-end at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Monday.

A 42-year-old woman, the driver of a black Toyota Corolla, was airlifted to a trauma centre without vital signs. She was pronounced dead in hospital.

A child was rushed to hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries. She died later on Monday.

A 28-year-old man, the driver of a black Infinity G35, is recovering from minor injuries. A five-month-old infant, who was also in the Infinity, was sent to hospital as a precaution.

The intersection has been closed for the investigation. York police are asking witnesses to come forward.

Sadly, this is the second serious collision involving a child in the GTA in three days. On Saturday, a toddler was critically injured in a collision close to Yonge and Eglinton.
