A man in his late 60s has died after a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in King West Village.

Emergency crews were called to Shaw Street, near King Street West, just before 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The man was found in the hallway on the second floor of the building suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office says the fire started on the living room sofa.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but careless smoking is one possible cause being investigated.

Paramedics say some residents were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and one was taken to hospital.
