Witnesses sought for Favour cyclist and taxi collision: police

By News Staff

Police are investigating a collision between a cyclist and a taxi driver in Toronto last week.

Officers responded to a struck cyclist in the area of Bay Street and Charles West on Thursday just before 5:50 p.m.

A 57-year-old taxi driver allegedly struck a 31-year-old cyclist and caused him to sustain minor injuries.

The collision was also caught on video and has since been viewed over 3-million times online. The original footage was shot by popular U.S. YouTuber Roman Atwood and posted as a part of his vlog.

The footage shows the bike courier slapping the cab’s passenger side window before the vehicle swerves and knocks over the cyclist off his bike. The taxi driver remained at the scene.

The cyclist was hit while on-the-job delivering for Favour, who say they are “extremely concerned” by this incident.

“We are extremely concerned by the incident involving one of our Favour Runners and a motorist in Toronto. The safety of our Runners is a top priority. We are in close contact with the Runner. The police have been informed and are currently investigating the incident.”

Police are also trying to track down four men in the video who helped the cyclist after he was hit.

The name of the cab driver has been confirmed to CityNews as Ali Farkhondehfall, but no charges have been laid yet.

Constable Clint Stibbe said the officers who attended the scene did not have access to the footage at the time. They were alerted to the video on Saturday.

A police officer spoke to witnesses and will be submitting his notes for the investigation.

Note: This story was corrected to say that an officer spoke to witnesses. There was no officer who witnessed the altercation.
