The teenage boy charged in a fatal crash in Caledon will next appear in court on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in court on Friday and had his bail hearing put over.

A 12-year-old girl died in the collision. At court on Friday, her grandmother described her as a “special girl.” The girl’s father brought McDonald’s to the crash site, as it was the girl’s favourite food and they would often eat there on road trips.

The collision happened on Hurontario Street near Teen Ranch, north of High Point Sideroad, around 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the boy was driving north on Hurontario, when the car crossed into the southbound lanes, landed in a ditch, and hit a brick barrier and a hydro pole.

The girl, a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the boy was treated in hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The vehicle had been reported stolen days before the crash.

The boy is charged with failing to comply with undertaking, possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
