Thunderstorm causes flooding in parts of Toronto

The city was belted with a blast of wet weather on Wednesday night as a severe thunderstorm hit Toronto and parts of the GTA.

The storm lasted for about an hour in the city’s downtown core.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Toronto, saying the storm system could produce strong wind gusts, dime-sized hail and heavy rain.

Warnings were also issued for Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham but have since ended.

The severe thunderstorm warning ended for Toronto just before 8:30 p.m.

Toronto Hydro reported downed power lines in parts of the city.

Some parts of the city also experienced localized flooding.
