’23 ways you could be killed if you are black in America’

By News Staff

“Failing to signal a lane change.”

“Selling cigarettes outside of a corner store.”

“Wearing a hoodie.”

These are just three of the scenarios Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and other celebrities describe in a black-and-white video titled 23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America.

The video urges people to sign a petition that calls on the U.S. Congress to deal with the issues of systemic racism. It specifically asks the government to commit $150-billion over the next decade to deal with issues of education, health care, housing, employment and nutrition in so-called “poor communities,” as well as to overhaul the criminal justice system.

“We demand radical transformation to heal the long history of systemic racism so that all Americans have the equal right to live and to pursue happiness,” Keys implores at the end of the almost three-minute video.

“The time for change is now.”

The video comes on the heels of NBA stars LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade making a public plea for an end to gun violence and racial profiling during Wednesday night’s ESPY Awards show.

James urged his fellow pros to educate themselves and renounce violence while using their resources and time to help strengthen and rebuild their communities.

“We all to have do better,” he said.
