Peel police arrest two, seek third suspect in rash of violent home invasions

By News Staff

Peel police have arrested two men and are seeking a third after a rash of violent home invasions and jewelry store robberies that saw victims, including the elderly and children, allegedly duct taped, zip-tied and beaten.

Project Blue Rock probed a series of violent robberies between October 2014 and December 2015 that targeted jewelry store owners.

“These acts were vicious and cowardly,” Peel police said in a release. “In some cases, the accused parties used hand guns, duct tape, zip ties and a taser to assault the victims which included elderly and children.”

Police say the accused men attached GPS units to victims’ car to find their homes and wore elaborate disguises (below).

Niranjan Kalaichlvam, 32, and Shakyle Henry, 20, both of Brampton, have been arrested and are facing numerous charges.

A third suspect, Rashid Ahmad, 25, (pictured below) remains at large and an arrest warrant has been issued.

The Windsor man is described as south Asian, five foot nine and 157 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a scar over his left eyebrow.

Brampton jewelry store owner Mohammad Zia was the victim of a violent invasion in December 2015 (photo below) when several masked men held him and his family hostage during a harrowing ordeal that led him to put his house up for sale.

“They tied me up, they put tape on my mouth and my dad too and asked for keys and passwords,” he told CityNews after the attack. “And (they said) if you tell me something wrong, they’ll kill my son.”

When Zia learned of the arrests, he says he took his house off the market.

“I can sleep well,” he said on Wednesday. “My family, my kids can sleep well. I’m so happy, police have done an excellent job.”

“I told my son last night that police have arrested the people…and he is so happy.”
