Tires slashed, woman robbed, in No Frills parking lot: Durham police

By News Staff

Durham police are investigating after a man allegedly slashed a set of tires in a No Frills parking lot, then, with an accomplice’s help, stole the driver’s purse.

The alleged incident happened at Bayly Street and Monarch Avenue in Ajax just before 3 p.m. on July 6.

Police believe one man slashed the tires on a woman’s SUV. The woman, who had already purchased groceries and withdrawn money from a cash machine, drove away before realizing she had a flat tire.

She returned to the parking lot, where a man asked if she needed help. She declined.

However, she later noticed her purse had been stolen.

She was not hurt.

Luis Riquelme, 65, of Toronto, was arrested on July 8. He is charged with mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and obstructing police. Police are still searching for the second suspect.
