PEI reverend accused of defrauding Oshawa senior

A reverend from Prince Edward Island is accused of defrauding an Oshawa senior, and Durham police have arrested four other people in their investigation.

Police allege the suspect befriended an 89-year-old widow and then used her credit card without her knowledge. She lost thousands of dollars, police said.

Harold Alan Stewart, 66, was arrested April 29. At the time, police asked anyone with information to come forward.

On Tuesday, police announced they had arrested four more people, including a contractor.

Alexsander Budimirovic, 50, of Oshawa, is charged with fraud over $5,000, false pretenses, use of credit card not authorized, utter forged documents, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, and four counts of trafficking in credit card data.

Police allege Budimirovic was initially employed by the widow for home repairs.

Julie Carlson, 49, and Ashley Carlson, 28, both of Oshawa, are charged with fraud under $5,000, use of credit card not authorized, and possession of property obtained By crime.

Pasquale Reda, 48, of Whitby, is charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of use of credit card not authorized, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, and failing to comply with probation.

Stewart is now facing seven charges, including fraud under $5,000, use of credit card not authorized, and possession of stolen property.
