Toronto police have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with two bank robberies in the city’s east end.
Police say at 7:50 p.m. on Friday, a man went to a bank in the Kingston Road and McCowan Road area, and threatened the teller with a firearm while the bank employee was serving a customer and demanded money.
The suspect allegedly took the money the teller had from the customer transaction. Police say he then pointed the gun at the teller again and at a security guard, and demanded more money.
The suspect is also accused in another bank robbery earlier in the week.
At 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a man walked into a bank in the Danforth Avenue and Pape Avenue area, pulled out a handgun and demanded money. In this alleged robbery, he tried to hide his face with his collar.
In both cases, the suspect made off with an unknown quantity of money and fled the scene.
Police also allege that on Saturday the man was casing a plaza near St. Clair Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue, where another bank was located.
James Patrick Mason, of Toronto, faces nine charges, including two counts of pointing a firearm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
