A Toronto firefighter is dead after riding her bike off a cliff at the Kelso Conservation Area in Milton.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Sara Rosen, a 15-year veteran of the Toronto Fire Service. She worked at Fire Station 443 on Islington Avenue in Etobicoke.
“We are very saddened to learn of the sudden passing of one of our own members,” Toronto Professional Firefighters’ Association vice-president Damien Walsh told CityNews. “We are deeply saddened and we are going to need some time to process this, and our heart goes out to Sara’s family, she was a really well respected member of our professional firefighters association and a well-respected firefighter.”
Rosen, who donated a kidney to her brother in 2004, was an advocate for organ donations in Ontario and was recognized by the Association on Twitter last year in an effort to encourage more organ donors to register.
Police said a woman was cycling her mountain bike along the Niagara Escarpment at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning when she went over the edge.
It is believed she fell between 70 to 80 feet.
