March for Life protest targets assisted dying legislation

By News Staff

Thousands of protesters will make their way to Parliament Hill on Thursday in the annual March for Life.

But instead of focusing on the usual issue of abortion, organizers say they will shift their focus to the government’s assisted dying legislation, which is in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling.

Organizers claim the government’s bill doesn’t respect the court’s decision and it doesn’t have enough restrictions or safeguards.

The government has dismissed similar comments saying they followed the court’s guidelines and this is the best approach to this sensitive issue.

The House of Commons will soon wrap its study of the bill but organizers hope to put pressure on the Senate to make changes.

The law needs to be in place before the Supreme Court deadline of June 6th.
