Mississauga City Hall unveils new art installation

By News Staff

Mississauga’s newest piece of public art is an open book.

The giant steel sculpture, fittingly named ‘The Book’, was unveiled today at city hall, steps away from Mississauga Central Library and Celebration Square.

It depicts a book with two pages torn away from its spine and blowing in the wind.

The artist behind the sculpture, Ilan Sandler, writes that the piece represents a form of poetic conflict.

“One can see the sculpture as a representation of a literary struggle: despite the attempt to bind ideas together, a page of thoughts escapes from the edge of Celebration Square and blows towards the library,” Sandler wrote.

The sculpture was donated to the City by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.
