Toronto man accused of setting up bank accounts, credit cards using fake ID

Toronto police have arrested a 30-year-old man who is accused of opening up bank accounts and getting credit cards using fake identification.

Police allege the man had an Ontario driver’s licence and credit cards with the name Jayden Rasanayagam, and opened up a business account under the name Patel Renovations.

Edwin Rasanayagam, of Toronto, was arrested on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

He is facing 16 charges including three counts of fraud over $5,000, three counts of laundering proceeds of crime, three counts of fail to comply probation, and possession of a counterfeit mark.

Police believe there may be more victims.
