It looks like a looming public transit strike in Brampton has been avoided after the city reached a tentative deal with the union that represents transit employees.
In a release, the city said it came to an agreement with Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) 1573 on Friday.
The deal is subject to a ratification vote which will take place on Tuesday. It will then need final approval by Brampton city council.
“We are pleased that a negotiated settlement was achieved that meets the needs of employees, the Corporation and the residents we serve,” said Mayor Linda Jeffrey.
Workers would have been in a legal strike position on Monday had a deal not been reached.
Details of the tentative deal haven’t been released, but the main points of contention were work breaks and a clawback of some health benefits.
