Toronto police officer faces second charge of sexual assault

By News Staff

A Toronto police officer has been charged with sexual assault for the second time this year.

According to the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), on Nov. 1, 2015, a 25-year-old woman encountered an officer near King Street West and Blue Jays Way.

The officer then drove the woman to her home in his squad car. The victim claims the officer sexually assaulted her after their initial contact.

SIU director Tony Loparco said that following an investigation, it was determined that there were reasonable grounds to charge the officer.

Sgt. Christopher Heard was charged with one count of sexual assault in connection with this incident.

On March 2, the SIU announced that Sgt. Heard had been charged with one count of sexual assault in connection with an incident from Sept. 24, 2015.

The SIU said Sgt. Heard picked up a 27-year-old woman near Wellington Street West and Blue Jays Way around 1 a.m. and drove the woman to her residence. On the way there, he allegedly assaulted her.

Under the Police Services Act, Heard has been suspended with pay.
