More Ontario students graduating high school than ever before

More Ontario students are graduating from high school than ever before, according to a report from the Office of the Premier.

According to the study the graduation rate has increased to 85.5 per cent.

More students than ever are graduating with the skills and knowledge they need to reach their full potential, the release said.

“This reinforces one of Ontario’s greatest strengths — having one of the most highly educated populations in the world,” said Premier Kathleen Wynne.

In 2015, the graduating rate was 68 per cent and is now up by more than 17 per cent.

It isn’t just the high school students being studious, but also elementary students in Ontario.

Seventy-two per cent of elementary students in grade 3 and grade 6 are meeting or exceeding the provincial standard of a grade level B in reading, writing and math.

“Ensuring that more students get diplomas means that more people will have the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said Wynne.

This is the second year that Ontario is publishing school board level graduates rates from across the province so that parents, students and teachers can help improve students.
