Raptors playoff game could bounce sold-out Pearl Jam concert

By News Staff

Make no bones about it, ageing rockers take a back seat to dinosaurs, at least in a city that’s desperate for a winner in the world of sports.

Barring a four-game sweep in their looming second-round playoff series against the Miami Heat, a sold-out Pearl Jam concert at the Air Canada Centre on May 11 will be moved to accommodate Game 5.

Promoter Paul Mercs Concerts made the announcement on Monday.

If there is a Game 5, the Pearl Jam show will take place the next night, on May 12.

Not everyone was pleased with the news.

On Twitter, Nate said the move was “penalizing one fan base for another.”

“Will cost me $$$ in flight/hotel changes POOR Customer Service ACC/Raps,” he tweeted.

Others had fun with it. Keegan contemplated a groundbreaking co-promotion. “$1M idea: Pearl Slam. A simultaneous Pearl Jam concert and Toronto Raptors playoff game. Same court. Same time.”

It’s not the first time the Raptors have dunked a rock show off its regular schedule.

Just last week, The Who’s concert on April 26 was postponed until April 27 to accommodate Game 5 of the Raptors’ series against Indiana.
