Sister-in-law guilty of manslaughter in 2009 death of Poonam Litt

By News Staff

A 39-year-old woman has been found guilty of manslaughter and her husband guilty of being an accessory after the fact in the death of a Brampton woman more than seven years ago.

Poonam Litt was stabbed in the neck with a box cutter in the middle of a fight with her family back on February 4, 2009.

Litt’s sister-in-law, Mandeep Punia, was acquitted of second-degree murder but found guilty of the lesser charge by a jury in a Brampton courtroom on Saturday. Skinder Punia, 45, was found guilty of dropping Litt’s body off in a field. Her remains were found three years later in Caledon.

Poonam’s father-in-law is being tried separately on charges of being an accessory after the fact.
