Drake announces OVO Fest date, Summer Sixteen tour

It’s been a busy week for Drake, and it’s only Monday.

The former Degrassi star-turned international rap sensation has announced the date for his seventh annual OVO Fest, as well as his Summer Sixteen tour.

OVO Fest will return to the Molson Amphitheatre on July 29, with Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa among the artists taking the stage for the usually star-studded festival.

The Summer Sixteen tour – which features Drake and Future – starts in Austin, Texas on July 20 and hits 26 cities across North America, finishing up in Vancouver on Sept. 17.

It comes to the Air Canada Centre on July 31 and Aug. 1.

So between OVO and Summer Sixteen, the unofficial king of The 6ix will be spending a good few days in the city leading up to the August long weekend.

But that should come as no surprise. Drake has been going out of his way lately to show the GTA some love.

On Sunday, he shocked fans by handed out t-shirts at a pop-up shop on Queen Street West to promote his upcoming album ‘Views from the Six’.

Hours later he showed off the album’s cover featuring the ultimate city view – him sitting on top of the CN Tower.

Along with the tweet was a message of love to Toronto “To the city I love and the people in it…Thank you for everything #VIEWS”

Not only did the image amp the Internet into a frenzy, it became the basis for some pretty funny memes.

Even Drake’s BFF Norm Kelly wanted to be included.

And more than a few people noticed Drake’s coat looked like something belonging to another Toronto celebrity.

Drake’s new album drops on Friday.
