Serial bank robber targeting city’s west end, police say

By News Staff

Toronto police are on the hunt for a serial bank robber targeting the city’s west end.

Staff Inspector Mike Earl said they believe one person has been responsible for ten robberies between Jan. 12 to Mar. 19.

The robberies have taken place in the area of Dundas and Bloor streets as well as St. Clair Avenue West and Bathurst Street.

Police said in each case the suspect lines up as a customer, approaches a teller, shows a note indicating he is armed and makes a demand for cash.

Insp. Earl said the bank tellers complied with the demand in each occasion and the suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

No one has been injured during the robberies.

Police said that while inside the bank the suspect usually wears sunglasses and sometimes has a scarf that he pulls up over the bottom of his mouth.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is being asked to contact police.
