TTC celebrates Bloor Line’s 50th birthday

By News Staff

The TTC is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bloor Line, and, like many of us, it’s seen a few changes over the years.

In fact, it’s not even known as the Bloor Line anymore. It’s now called Line 2. While the opening of the line was celebrated with a new token sleeve, the TTC is now moving to phase out tokens.

Lester B. Pearson was Prime Minister when the Bloor Line opened and was on hand to take the ceremonial first ride. TTC spokesman Brad Ross has been tweeting out photos of the beginning of the construction, including these photos of Pearson:

The TTC is celebrating the milestone with a party at Chester Station. There will be live performances (including something billed as family-friendly burlesque), music, art, prizes, and balloons. It all gets underway at 3 p.m., with cake at 6 p.m.
