A seven-year-old boy and staff at an Uxbridge ski resort are being credited for saving another boy who fell from a ski lift.
The incident happened at Lakeridge Resort just before noon on Thursday during a school trip.
The boy was sitting on the lift with three other classmates when he lost a ski as the lift headed up the hill. When he turned to look back, he slipped off the seat and began to fall.
The classmate sitting next to him grabbed him and held him for up to two minutes as ski staff set up a net to catch the boy, who was dangling 40 feet off the ground. He fell into the net and then bounced off and onto the hill.
He was airlifted to a Toronto hospital, where he is recovering.
Durham police said the “fast actions” of the classmate and ski resort staff saved the boy from more serious injuries. They are being recommended for citizen recognition awards.
