Fire, emergency alarms cause major delays on morning subway commute

It was a perfect storm of events that caused major subway delays on the Yonge-University line during the morning rush Tuesday.
According to the TTC, a fire at Davisville station and three passenger emergency alarms were the issue, causing delays of over half an hour over normal commute times both ways between Bloor and Finch.
“Yes, a bit of a perfect storm all started by the track fire,” said TTC spokesperson Brad Ross.
“It all started with a track fire at Davisville. The domino effect then was several emergency alarm activations by people feeling unwell or faint on crowded trains moving slowly.”
Backlogs at southern subway platforms continued to grow as packed trains shuttled more people from northern stations to their downtown destinations. At Yonge-Bloor, the crowd was described as 20-25 people deep.
“It was insane,” said one passenger. “I’ve never seen so many people on the platform. But there was no room on the train for them.”
Ross reminds passengers that if they aren’t feeling well while on a subway to leave the train at the nearest station and seek assistance on the platform.
