The two teenage boys killed in a stunt gone horribly wrong at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary have been identified as twin brothers Jordan and Evan Caldwell. Their family released this statement Saturday evening:

“We were reminded today that life is but a vapor. Life is precious, life is fragile, and we must redeem the time we’re given. Our boys Jordan & Evan were bright lights to all who knew them. We are grieving their loss but confident in their new home of heaven. Our brief 17 years with them were a gift; filled with much love, laughter, and fond memories. They leave a huge void and will be sorely missed.”

The President and CEO of WinSport, Barry Heck, says a thorough review of security at the park is underway following the tragedy on the bobsleigh track.

“Today is the most tragic day in Winsport history. I want to start by offering my thoughts and prayers to the two young men who died.”

An emotional Heck talked about the deadly crash on the sliding track which was closed at the time.

Heck says his staff are not only co-operating in the investigation launched by police and the medical examiner, but they are conducting their own safety review to make sure such a tragedy doesn’t happen again.

He added, “As a world class organization where not only Olympic athletes from all over the world are training but people of all ages are introduced to sport, safety as a focus is an aspect of our organization.”

Heck says the sliding facility will remain closed until the various police and safety reviews are completed.

Emergency crews were called to the hill around 1:30 Saturday morning to find the two boys dead and six others injured. One of the victims is in critical condition.

The teens had been riding a personal toboggan down the track when they hit a gate used to separate the bobsled and luge tracks, part of the way down.
