York police have charged the son of a man who was found fatally stabbed in a Richmond Hill home on Sunday with first-degree murder.

Officers were called to Harding Boulevard, near Major Mackenzie Drive and Yonge Street, around 9 p.m.

Robert Veltheer, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His son Jacob Veltheer, 30, was spotted by officers walking on Highway 48 in the area of Holborn Road in East Gwillimbury on Monday around 1:30 p.m. and was arrested and charged.

Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

Police say they found a weapon at the scene, but they’re not saying what the weapon is.

A woman who lives in the home, who is related to the victim, was the one who called 911. However, police aren’t saying how they’re related, or whose home it was.

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
