‘I want justice’: Widow of Chinatown murder victim speaks out

By Adrian Ghobrial

Police are still trying to determine what led to a brazen double-homicide in Chinatown on Sunday.

Less than a week after the fatal gunfire, CityNews reporter Adrian Ghobrial sat down with the widow of one of the victims.

David Eminess, also known as Mikey, died that night. He was the father of an 18-month-old daughter.

His wife, Isabelle Promesse, is seeking closure. She also has a message for her husband’s killer or killers.

“I don’t hate them at all,” Promesse said through tears. “I don’t have one bad wish for them. But I wish they would have thought before they did it. I wish they would come forward. Because I don’t want it to go unsolved. I want justice.”

Promesse said her husband was always one to avoid confrontation.

“He always said ‘I have too much to live for.’ If anyone was to argue with him or start something he would always walk away.”

Eminess, 26, was just weeks away from finishing his final school credits before beginning his journey to become an electrician. His friend, Quinn Taylor, was also killed in the attack out front of New Ho King restaurant on Spadina. Detectives say the victims weren’t affiliated with any gangs.

Three others were injured. No arrests have been made.

Suddenly a single mother, Promesse has been left to lean on family and the generosity of others to get by.

A fundraising page has been set up to help pay for mounting funerals costs, and their young daughter’s future.

“I’m a single parent now,” she said. “It’s just me and her. It will be hard. But I would like the help. Anything helps. Anything.”
