TTC bus veers into left lane and strikes car, then drives away

A TTC bus driver hit a car in North York and drove away without stopping during Thursday morning’s rush hour in North York.
Kris De Napoli was making a left turn on an advance green when the bus made a right turn onto the same roadway, veering into the left lane that De Napoli was entering. The bus struck the front passenger side of De Napoli’s car.
“I was surprised that despite my honking he continued after the accident,” De Napoli told CityNews in an email.
His dash cam caught the entire incident, which happened at Keele Street and York Boulevard.
De Napoli says he spoke to a TTC supervisor who took a report and pictures and told De Napoli that he’d contact police.
When De Napoli didn’t hear from the police, he contacted the police himself.
“I was disappointed to hear that TTC had not even contacted the police,” De Napoli wrote.
CityNews sent the video to TTC spokesperson Brad Ross, the head of corporate communications, who said that the TTC did contact police.
Ross also confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“Now that we have dashcam video, we will complete the investigation from our end and address (it) with the operator,” Ross wrote in an email to CityNews.
De Napoli went to a collision reporting centre to file the report and says a fail-to-remain investigation has been opened.
“I received the dascham as a gift this year and never expected it would come in handy. Had I not had the dashcam, however, I would not have been able to identify the bus who hit me and left.”
De Napoli wasn’t injured and is expecting an estimate on the cost to fix his car, which he guesses will be in the $3,000-$4,000 range.
“I’m not going to let this get me down over the holidays,” De Napoli concluded.
