Today is International Migrants Day and Mayor John Tory is marking the occasion by sending a message via YouTube to Syrian refugees who are settling in Toronto.
Tory says he’s proud of the people across Toronto who have stepped forward to demonstrate their generosity and to provide a welcoming new home.
“I’m so very proud of this effort, which is showing the world the value we hold as Canadians,” he says.
He says the fabric of this country is strengthened by newcomers.
International Migrants Day was appointed by the United Nations in 2000 to recognize the rights of migrant workers and members of their families.
