Man dies after being rushed to closed hospital in bullet-riddled car

There was some confusion on Monday morning after a 27-year-old man was rushed to a closed hospital.

A woman brought the victim — identified by Toronto police as Jamahl Darling — to the now closed, old Humber Finch hospital around 5 a.m.

An ambulance showed up a half-an-hour later and rushed the man to the new Humber River hospital.

The man was pronounced dead at the second hospital.

Paramedics say they were called to the old hospital, which closed more than a month ago, by police.

The woman was also taken to hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

It is not clear exactly where the shooting took place, but there are at least 10 bullet holes in the passenger window and the front of the car that delivered the man to the wrong hospital.

The eastbound lanes of Finch Avenue West between Humber College Blvd and Highway 27 were closed for the investigation.

Investigators are searching for a suspect vehicle they believe was involved in the shooting, described as a dark, four-door, newer-model, crossover SUV. which was last seen travelling eastbound on Finch Avenue West.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers.
