Slow go on the GO: Trains were delayed, cancelled due to broken switch

It was a slow go for GO Transit riders on Monday morning after a switch broke, causing problems on three train lines.

Originally, GO thought a part in the switch froze and broke, but that wasn’t the case.

“Initially it looked like perhaps it might be weather-related, but (repair crews) opened it up and determined it was a broken part,” Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins told CityNews.

Temporary repairs were done to the part to get the trains moving and now a permanent fix has been implemented, she explained.

Several trains were delayed or cancelled on the Lakeshore East and West lines, as well as the Stouffville line.

At one point, there was no service for passengers at Scarborough and Eglinton GO stations.

Anyone who was delayed by 15 minutes or more can get a refund, according to GO’s service guarantee policy.
