680 NEWS wins award for coverage of Parliament Hill shooting

The National Edward R. Murrow Awards were handed out in New York City on Monday night and 680 NEWS was the only Canadian radio or television station to be honoured.

Our news station was recognized in the breaking news category for its coverage of the shooting on Parliament Hill in October of 2014.

Reporter Cormac Mac Sweeney in New York City tonight to accept the industry award on behalf of 680 NEWS.

Mac Sweeney was in the building when gunman Michael Zehaf Bibeau opened fire.

Mac Sweeney has a personal reminder from that day: a bullet hole in his jacket which he left on the chair just before the gunfire broke out.

The awards are given out by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).
