Three-year-old boy left unattended in Brampton vehicle, police break window

Police had to break the glass window of a vehicle to remove a three-year-old boy after he was left alone inside the vehicle in Brampton on Wednesday evening.

Police responded to a call around 6 p.m. for a child inside a vehicle at a Shopper’s World parking lot.

It is believed that the child was left unattended in the vehicle for up to an hour, said police.

The man told police that he went into the mall, leaving the child alone, because the boy had fallen asleep.

Security had been paging customers in the mall announcing the license plate to try to find the owner of the vehicle.

The man did not respond to the paging but returned to his car where he found police and security surrounding the vehicle.

A firefighter crawled through the vehicle to get to the boy.

The boy was taken to hospital as a precaution and was not injured.

Police said they spoke to the father and educated him on the dangers of leaving children unattended in the car.

A report will be sent to Children’s Aid Society on this incident.

Police said no charges have been laid.
