Hwy. 401 reopens at Mavis after crash

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Mississauga have reopened after a crash closed the lanes for nearly six hours during the morning rush hour.

A transport truck rolled over at Mavis Road just before 2 a.m. on Monday. The lanes reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

Early reports indicate the driver drifted out of his lane and struck a minivan. The transport truck then swerved and flipped onto its side.

The transport truck itself was blocking the shoulder and two lanes. Meanwhile, the truck was carrying glass and crews had used a backhoe to clear up the mess.

The driver of the truck had minor injuries. It’s not yet known if he will be charged.

It doesn’t appear that anyone in the minivan was hurt.

The closure made a mess of the early morning commute.

One driver went past a barricade that was set up to stop drivers from approaching the scene. The driver was blocked by the truck and ended up in the ditch. Police officers on the scene are now speaking to the driver.
