Maritime patrol aircraft slides off runway during takeoff at Nova Scotia base

By The Canadian Press

GREENWOOD, N.S. – Military flight investigators were expected at a Nova Scotia air base after an Aurora patrol aircraft was damaged following an aborted takeoff.

Capt. John Pulchny of 14 Wing Greenwood says the aircraft was about to take off for a northern patrol mission when it slid off the end of the runway and into grass around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

Pulchny says it’s not known what caused the aircraft to slide off the runway.

He says none of the 17 crew on board the Aurora were injured.

Pulchny says the extent of the damage to the aircraft isn’t known, although it appears there was damage to the front landing gear.

The base runway was open and normal operations at the base were continuing.
