Toronto police identify second suspect in July 6 kidnapping and sexual assaults

Toronto police have identified 30-year-old Byron Marvin Reid as one of two men who allegedly kidnapped three women and committed two sexual assaults earlier this month.

On July 6 at around 4 a.m., three women were driving in the Dundas Street West and Winston Churchill Boulevard area of Mississauga when their car broke down. Reid and a second man, 36-year-old Jimmy Minani, allegedly pulled up in a van and offered to help the women, eventually saying they would give them a ride home.

Police say one of the women was sexually assaulted while the van was still moving. Then, say police, the vehicle was stopped and two of the women were allowed to get out while the third was kept in the van and sexually assaulted by the two men. The woman was later able to escape.

Reid is wanted for abduction, forcible confinement, robbery, two counts of gang sexual assault, and failing to comply with recognizance – essentially that he broke a promise to the courts to keep the peace.

Police say Reid may be driving a white four-door Ford Escape, with Ontario license plate BTDM 225. They ask that anyone with information on Reid’s whereabouts contact Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Minani surrendered to police on July 8 and was charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, robbery, two counts of gang sexual assault, two counts of failing to comply with recognizance, and uttering threats of death or bodily harm.
