Toronto police officer in hospital after 3-vehicle crash

A Toronto police officer has been injured in a three-vehicle crash near Polson Pier.

The officer, whose age and gender is not yet known, is in serious but stable condition, paramedics said.

The officer’s cruiser became sandwiched between two trucks over the noon hour at Cherry and Polson streets.

The cruiser was on Cherry, following behind a small waste truck when the truck stopped. Investigators said that’s when a second, much larger waste truck rammed the cruiser from behind, pushing it into the first truck.

There were several police officers in the area ahead of the crash since it’s the marshalling area for vehicles involved in the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

Cherry is closed off in the area.
