Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto, Hamilton, Halton-Peel, York-Durham and Niagara.
The agency says the warning will likely be extended later Monday afternoon to include much of southwestern and eastern Ontario.
Monday’s high is expected to reach 32 C feeling closer to 36 with the humidity.
Warm overnight minimum temperatures are expected near 20 C.
The hot weather has prompted the city’s medical officer of health to issue a heat alert for Toronto. It will be in effect until further notice.
During a heat alert, the public is encouraged to call or visit family, friends and neighbours, especially isolated adults and seniors who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness, to make sure they are cool and drinking plenty of fluids.
Environment Canada said the hot weather conditions will likely continue into Thursday.
