Double murder suspect dead after shooting in entertainment district, SIU investigates

A 21-year-old man shot and killed in the entertainment district early Saturday morning was a suspect wanted in connection with a double murder investigation.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after the man died following a shooting in the area of Peter and Adelaide streets.

The SIU confirmed that the man shot was Kwasi Skene-Peters.

Skene-Peters was wanted on an arrest warrant for first-degree murder in last month’s shooting in the Queen Street and Dovercourt Road area that left two people dead.

The SIU said that Toronto police officers approached a vehicle on Peter Street shortly before 2 a.m., there was an interaction between police and the 21 year old, and the man was shot.

The man was rushed to hospital where he died a short time later.

The SIU is called in when police officers are involved in incidents where someone has been seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault.
