Child dies after falling from 15th floor of Toronto high-rise

A funeral will be held Tuesday for a four-year-old child who died after falling from the 15th floor of a high-rise apartment in Toronto on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the child fell out a window. The five-year-old does not live in the building but was visiting family, police said.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. near Thorncliffe Park Drive, in the area of Don Mills Road and Overlea Boulevard.

The child was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Authorities are looking into whether the safety lock had been removed from the window, allowing it to be opened fully and the screen to be pushed out.

The president of the building’s tenants association said safety locks were installed on all of the high rise’s windows two years ago.

The Toronto Star reports members of the association will be going door-to-door starting Monday to make sure all windows have the safety locks.

No charges are expected to be laid.
